UEFA Grassroots Day

Zwei SoccerGround Advanced Mini-Pitches dienten als UEFA - Austragungsstätte für die begabten italienischen Nachwuchstalente. Fairerweise war hierbei je ein Spielfeld für Jungs und eines für Mädchen reserviert. Und so kickten und kämpften die Kids den ganzen sonnigen Tag bis zum Sonnenuntergang um die Siegerurkunden. Diese wurden im Anschluss unter dem Applaus der vielen hundert Zuschauer durch den FIGC (italienischer Fußball-Dachverband) an die Teilnehmer zwischen 8 und 16 Jahren verliehen.

Dabei ging es gar nicht ausschließlich ums Gewinnen sondern Dabeisein war die Devise. Gespielt wurde unter dem Motto: 'nessuno escluso‘, was so viel heißt wie „niemand wird ausgeschlossen!“, wirklich jeder darf hier Spaß haben!

Unterstützt durch viele Aktionen und rockige Popmusik standen Spiel und Vergnügen im Vordergrund und so fand dieses großartige Event viel Anklang bei allen großen und kleinen Turinern und Touristen. In den späteren Abendstunden kamen dann die Profis vom Sevilla FC und dem SL Benfica Lissabon zum Einsatz im Juventus-Stadion von Turin.

The 50-year-old also underlined the importance of the growth of women's football in parallel to the male game. "We are working in collaboration with UEFA on this," he said. "We are trying to take advantage of all the resources at our disposal, like the mini-pitches UEFA gave us [as part of the HatTrick assistance programme], to take football everywhere, especially to the most difficult areas of big Italian cities and women's football. We had some difficulty in Italy in this respect, but we are making up for it."

Inclusivity is the watchword. This morning Turin's Ferrante Aporti juvenile detention centre hosted a mini-tournament linked with the grassroots activities, as the FIGC seeks to engage young detainees, using football as an educational tool. They played under the banner 'nessuno escluso!' (nobody excluded!), which could easily apply to the FIGC's approach as a whole.
